Game Of Thrones: 10 Things We Learned From "Breaker Of Chains"
2. Davos Is Under A Lot Of Pressure
Youll remember that last season, Stannis tossed three leeches filled with Gendrys royal blood into a fire, each leech representing Robb Stark, Joffrey Baratheon and Balon Greyjoy, respectively. When Robb was killed, Melisandre twisted that to her advantage and convinced Stannis that her leech spell was responsible, and now with Joffrey dead, Stannisis starting to believe her. Unfortunately for him, since Davos freed Gendry, he cant duplicate the spell to kill more royal wannabes. Davos explains that hes managed to rally more men to Stannis side, but its not enough. The onion knight suggests that they hire sellswords from the Golden Company, but Stannis scoffs at the idea. With their lack of men and gold, Stannis is running out of time to press his claim. With work stressing him out, Davos heads to Princess Shireens chambers to continue his reading lessons. Giving him a book about pirates in Braavos, Shireen comments on how Davos was once a pirate. The onion knight corrects her, saying that he was a smuggler, and the difference between the two is that a well-known smuggler isnt doing his job right. While elaborating on his adventures in Braavos, Davos is hit with inspiration. Grabbing a quill and paper, he asks Shireen to write a letter to the Iron Bank of Braavos under Stannis name. One of the new characters being introduced this season is Tycho Nestoris, a representative of the Iron Bank being played by Mark Gatiss. With Davos sending a letter to the Iron Bank, Tycho will obviously be drawn into the Westeros conflict somehow. Whether its to give Stannis a loan or to draw attention to the Lannisters' debt is unknown, but its clear this conflict is about to take an economic turn.
