Game Of Thrones: 10 Things We Learned From "Breaker Of Chains"
3. Jon Snows Dealing With Problems On Both Fronts
Trouble is brewing on both sides of the Wall. As we saw in Two Swords, Ygritte, Tormund and the rest of the wildlings south of the Wall have teamed up with the cannibalistic Thenns. The first victims of this alliance are in a nearby village, where every villager is slaughtered except one boy. Styr, Magnar of the Thenns, orders the boy to run to Castle Black to tell them what he saw. The boy makes it, and debate erupts over what the Nights Watch should do about this. While many want to engage the wildlings, Maester Aemon wisely points out that they only have 100 men, and that the first duty of the Nights Watch is to protect the Wall. Jon agrees, stating that if Castle Black falls, no one will be able to stop the wildlings from destroying everything in their path. At that moment, a horn sounds, signalling the return of rangers. Edd and Grenn reveal that they were prisoners of the Nights Watch mutineers from last season. It turns out that theyve made Crasters Keep their home and are treating Crasters wives worse than he ever did. Remembering that he told Mance Rayder that there were 1,000 men guarding the Wall, Jon states that they need to send men to kill the mutineers before they reveal the Nights Watchs true numbers to the wildlings. Jon knew the Nights Watch would have to deal with wildlings on both sides of the Wall, but he figured his bluff to Mance and the Walls size would give them more of an advantage. With the mutineers threatening their strategy, Jon and the others will have to swiftly take them out discreetly before Mance and the wildlings get ahold of them. Unfortunately, this mission will be dangerous, and if theres one thing the Nights Watch cant afford to lose, its more men.
