Game Of Thrones: 10 Things We Learned From "The Children"

5. Bran Makes It To The Tree At A Cost

After weeks of travel, Bran, Ghost, Jojen, Meera and Hodor€™s journey is finished! They have made it to the heart tree, and not a moment too soon as Jojen is growing increasingly sick. Unfortunately, their troubles aren€™t over yet. As they approach the tree, wights emerge from the ground and attack the group. Meera and Ghost are able to hold their own and Bran wargs into Hodor to fight them off, but they are severely outmatched, and Jojen is soon injured. As several wights charge towards Bran€™s body, they are incinerated by two fireballs. A young girl at the base of the tree tells Bran to come with her. Hodor grabs Bran and races towards the tree, but Meera won€™t leave Jojen behind. The girl tells says to come with her or die with him, and Jojen tells her she has to leave. With the wights charging towards her, Meera mercifully kills her brother and runs to the tree. The girl holds the wights off with her fireballs and incinerates Jojen€™s body to make sure he doesn€™t turn into a wight. Meera and Ghost barely make it into the tree, but luckily there is magic protecting it that shatters the wights when they enter. Bran asks the girl who she is, and she responds,€The First Men called us children, but we were born long before them,€ meaning she is one of the last Children of the Forest. She leads them further into the tree until they reach a chamber with weirwoods roots collected in the center and bones scattered everywhere. Seated in the roots is an old man who appears to be one with the roots. Hodor puts Bran down, and the boy crawls towards the old man and asks if he€™s the three-eyed raven. The old man admits that he is, saying that he€™s taken many forms, but this is his true self. Meera is upset that Jojen died, but the man says that Jojen knew this would happen, but he went anyway so that Bran could get here. Bran asks if he€™ll walk again. The man says, €œYou will never walk again, but you will fly.€ A new world of mysticism has revealed itself. After episodes (even seasons) of travel, Bran has finally found the three-eyed raven. He never knew what he would find following the bird, only that it was his destiny to find it. He€™s lost a friend in the process, but whatever is in store for Bran is not only important for him, but possibly Westeros itself. We€™ve seen dragons, Lord of Light sorcery and the unnatural forces of the White Walkers, and now we€™re delving deeper into the world of the Children of the Forest and the Old Gods. Who knows what we€™ll find?
