Game Of Thrones: 10 Things We Learned From "First Of His Name"

6. Littlefinger And Sansa Have Arrived At The Vale

After God knows how long on that boat, Petyr Baelish and Sansa have finally arrived the Vale, the home of Lysa Arryn, Catelyn Stark€™s sister and Petyr€™s betrothed. Because Sansa is a fugitive of King€™s Landing, Petyr states that she is his niece Alayne when they reach the Vale€™s gates. Once they€™re inside the castle, they meet with Lysa and her son Robin. Remember him? The frail, way-too-old-for-breastfeeding kid who wanted to see Tyrion €œfly?€ Anyway, Lysa is aware of Sansa€™s identity, but warns her not to tell anyone else who she is. Lysa asks her son to take Sansa to her chambers. Alone with Petyr, she embraces her fiancé passionately. She demands that they get married that night, but Petry wants to wait. She points out that they had their €œwedding night€ years ago, and says she€™s done everything he€™s asked of her, including kill her husband Jon. That€™s right, that whole thing of sending the note to her sister suspecting that the Lannisters killed Jon was a lie. She did it herself on Petyr€™s request. Regardless, Petyr relents and they are married within minutes (there's a septon waiting at the door, terrifyingly), followed by a night of...loud bedtime activities. There was one other thing about Lysa...oh yeah, she€™s insane! The next day, while Sansa€™s eating dinner, Lysa drops by and tells her about how Catelyn used to indulge her inner foodie. After informing Sansa how thankful she should be for Petyr helping her, Lysa questions why her new husband is so obsessed with her. Sansa says that she shouldn€™t have anything to worry about, but Lysa accuses her of seducing him. During all this, Lysa is holding Sansa€™s hands and grips them harder with each moment. Sansa denies Lysa€™s accusations, stating she€™s still a virgin and that Petyr hasn€™t touched her. Finally, Lysa calms down and apologises, saying that soon Tyrion will be executed and Sansa will be married to Robin. We knew Lysa was stubborn and an enabler with her son when we met her in season 1, but this scene alone proved she€™s off her rocker. She and Catelyn had their differences, but now it looks like Lysa had eyes for Petyr when they were young. She€™s worried that he might love someone other than her, and that€™s why she accused Sansa of sleeping with him. Does Petyr have ulterior reasons for rescuing Sansa? Definitely, but Lysa's paranoia makes no sense. Her mind is filled with conspiracy theories and suspicion, and as Ned Stark would tell you, that's never a good thing.
