Game Of Thrones: 15 Biggest ‘Holy Sh*t!’ Moments So Far
11. The Dragons Hatch
Daenerys spent most of Season 1 at a disadvantage. With her storyline on the other side of the world from the intrigue of the Seven Kingdoms, it was hard to see the young woman with the savage husband, abusive brother, and baby on the way as much of a player in the game of thrones. With the death of Khal Drogo and her loss of influence among the Dothraki, she didn't seem to have much life left in her. When she walked into her husband's funeral pyre with her three priceless dragon eggs, it was hard to blame her. At least she would go out memorably. And then, the next morning, she rises unharmed from the ashes of Drogo's pyre, naked and covered in soot. Three dragons are curled (strategically) around her body. In the final scene of the final episode of the first season, the Mother of Dragons is born. Suddenly, the game has a new contender.
10. The Slaughter Of The Bastards
After Ned's discovery of Gendry is Season 1 led to the revelation of the true paternity of Cersei's children, it became clear that Robert's brood of black-haired blue-eyed bastards posed something of a threat to the blonde royal children. As rumors began to circulate about the nature of Cersei's and Jaime's relationship, it became imperative that the Lannisters maintain control of the situation. So, in a completely proportional and not at all politically unintelligent move, Joffrey gives the order to have all of the bastards killed. Way to invalidate those rumors, Joffrey. Flippancy aside, the final scene of the premiere of Season 2 was genuinely troubling as Joffrey's soldiers storm through King's Landing, seizing and murdering children. A boy is drowned. A baby is wrenched from her mother's arms. A blacksmith is tortured into revealing (eldest bastard) Gendry's whereabouts. It's pretty devastating.
Fiction buff and writer. If it's on Netflix, it's probably in my queue. I've bought DVDs for the special features and usually claim that the book is better than the movie or show (and can provide examples). I've never met a TV show that I won't marathon. Follow on Twitter @lah9891 .
