5. Jaime Loses A Hand

In Season 3, Jaime's and Brienne's road trip is sidelined when they are captured by a rogue band of Roose Bolton's men. Brienne is dragged off to be raped, but Jaime pipes up and tells Locke that Brienne will be ransomed by her father for a hefty price...but only if she is unhurt. Jaime then pushes things too far as he tries to negotiate for their release. Locke becomes overly solicitous, and everybody who is not Jaime Lannister can sense that something very bad is going to happen if he does not stop running his mouth. Jaime, however, still somehow believes that he is protected by virtue of his surname. Even when Locke forces him over a tree stump and draws a knife on him, Jaime reminds his captors that his father is a powerful man. "You're nothing without your daddy," spits Locke, "and your daddy ain't here." Then, with one swift swing of his arm, he chops off the sword hand of Jaime Lannister.

4. Daenerys Steals The Unsullied

After the relative doldrums of her stay in Qarth in Season 3, Daenerys' storyline becomes interesting once more in Season 3. Finally realizing that she will not be gifted with lands and soldiers merely because of her status as a Targaryen, Dany agrees to trade one of her precious dragons in exchange for 8,000 Unsullied slave warriors. Both Ser Jorah and Ser Barristan oppose the deal, but Daenrys hands a leashed Drogon to slaveholder Kraznys in exchange for the whip that grants her ultimate authority over the Unsullied. Drogon, however, refuses to cooperate with Kraznys. "A dragon is not a slave," says Daenerys, then gives Drogon the order to burn Kraznyz alive. Turning to the 8,000 Unsullied, she orders them to kill all of the masters and strike the chains off of all of the slaves.
