Games Of Thrones Season 7: What 'Eastwatch' Really Means
11. Lannister Friction And A Revelation
If you had any money on the fact that Olenna Tyrell's final revelation that it was she who murdered Joffrey wouldn't be accepted on face value by Cersei, now's the time to collect.
Despite Jaime revealing the Queen Of Thorns' spiky parting shot, Cersei simply brushed it off as a malicious swipe at the Lannisters by a desperate doomed woman. Even with Jaime insisting it was true, Cersei seemed not to accept the truth, suggesting she should have been allowed to flay Olenna as she desired.
These scenes between the Lannister lover/siblings were clearly designed to show the friction that is quickly building between them: Jaime doesn't trust Cersei's methods, or her judgement and believes her actions will see their House wiped out. Cersei sees betrayal and a lack of faith in him (plus an infuriating bond with Tyrion), in turn. We're being led along the path to believe this friction will eventually lead to the end of Cersei at Jaime's hand.
Curiously though, Cersei did then refer to Tyrion as "our brother" in her next scene with Jaime, which could perhaps suggest she has immediately softened her opinion of him. Perhaps with the prophecy potentially broken, she has less reason to fear the valonqar?
Or maybe she's just pretending?
