Gotham Season 2: 10 Awesome Moments (And 4 That Sucked)

2. Flamingo Initially Appeared Weak

Comic book author Grant Morrison intended for Eduardo Flamingo to be a flamboyant character who, despite being a serial killer who eats people€™s faces, looks like a gay, biker, Hispanic Eminem with the facial hair of a thirteen year old who just discovered that he can now grow facial hair. His design was intentional, a contrast to the fact that he was ridiculously dangerous. It was great to see Flamingo have his first live action debut out of the comics as this opens up the doors for even more contemporary Batman villains to appear. He was suitably flamboyant, creepy and cannibalistic and it seemed as if the creators wanted to be faithful to the character. Flamingo was the straw that broke Gordon's back. His brutal murder of the young, naïve Gotham cop (while being detained) truly reinforced to Jim that he needs to be willing to cross some boundaries if he wants to win his war against the deadly craziness of Gotham's criminal elite. Flamingo essentially played an important role in Gordon's continuing characterization. However there were two very distinctive problems with the portrayal of this character and both were shown during his battle with Gordon. Firstly, the guy's weapon was a metal chain. Metal chains are only suitable weapons for bikers in arcade beat-em-ups or bikers in hokey eighties movies.Snatching a chain off (insert rapper here) and using it to murder people isn€™t something that a guy who is known as the King of Killers, the Ace of Assassins and the Eater of Faces would do. Secondly, after having Flamingo slaughter four armed police officers in less than a minute, Gordon proceeds to beat him silly in a bout of hand-to-hand combat. We all know that Gordon has had military training and was a cage fighter in Orange County when he was younger, but besting one of the most dangerous men he€™s ever come across in a fair fight wasn€™t convincing. Flamingo deserved a better showing and Gordon should have had to rely on dirty tactics to gain the upper hand. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVXK7MZF4F8
