20 TV Shows That Failed To Stick The Landing

15. Penny Dreadful

Penny Dreadful Possession
Showtime

Penny Dreadful was brilliant throughout its run, until a rushed and truncated finale left many fans scratching their heads and bemoaning the anticlimax of it all.

A beautiful drama blending Gothic horror with bloody action to create a unique world of human heroes versus complicated monsters, John Logan's cult gem sported stunning production design, effective genre subversion, and an all-star cast led by Eva Green and Josh Hartnett offering the best work of their careers.

It's awesome! Seriously. The problems arise in the final hour or two, when our assembled heroes line up against Dracula only for the fight to fail to deliver on the promise of previous episodes. There's no big confrontation between Drac and Hartnett, a couple of big reveals are mentioned only in passing, and in the end, everything just kind of... stops.

With all the villains still out there, wreaking havoc, and every fan favourite character dead, Penny Dreadful needed another season or two to really do itself justice. But alas, it was never meant to be, and fans were forever left with more questions than answers by the time it came to a close.
