Hannibal: 6 Reasons It Should Come Back (And 4 Reasons It Shouldn't)
3. There's Not Much Source Material Left
Whenever an adaptation of this, or any sort is made, there's always the issue of how true you will stay to the source material. Hannibal started off telling its own unique story and used the original books and movies as more of guidelines than rules of law. Moreover, it did so to great effect, giving us something that was familiar and brand new at the exact same time.
That said, when there's little to no source material for inspiration left, things may get tricky. While The Silence of the Lambs is still an untapped gold mine for the show, there's still absolutely no guarantee that Bryan Fuller will actually be successful in acquiring the rights. Sure, the inevitable next chapter in Will and Hannibal's saga and the conclusion of Bedelia's story will suffice for a while, but if the Silence plans fall through, there's not a whole lot more they could really do from there.
After all, the show's retelling of Red Dragon and Hannibal are already over and they're likely to stay as far away from Hannibal Rising as possible. So, Unless Fuller gets the go-ahead for Silence, a revival could be a disappointingly short-lived affair.
