Heroes Reborn: 7 Reasons To Look Forward To The Revival
3. It's Only 13 Episodes
Cable television has been tending towards the British approach of 'less is more' for some time now, and NBC is doing the same in only ordering thirteen episodes for the limited series. It suits Heroes perfectly, not only because the original vision for the show was a series of short volumes of around 10-13 episodes, but also because Heroes simply wasn't built as a long-running show. The problem is most apparent in the character of Hiro, whose ability of space-time manipulation was so powerful that it was a deus ex machina and therefore he had to be isolated for large stretches of the season. Similarly, Peter Petrelli's ability to absorb other powers was eventually reduced because it was too convenient, and Claire's regeneration literally rendered her (and Sylar) invulnerable to the writers. These aren't characters which can exist in the long-term without creating serious issues in the storyline, as they eventually did while Heroes came up with bizarre ways to neutralise them. As season one of Heroes proved, thirteen episodes aren't enough for these issues to come up, so we can once again enjoy the most exciting abilities without the consequences.
