His Dark Materials: Where You Recognise The Cast From

11. Will Keen - Father MacPhail

Though Will Keen has been on television since 1994, his biggest claim to fame is probably that he’s the father of Dafne Keen, the fourteen year old star of His Dark Materials. Already, Dafne is a more recognisable name, but we’ll get to exactly why in a little bit.

Keen has popped up in several classic British TV shows, debuting in Alleyn Mysteries before moving on to The Bill, Murphy’s Law, Midsomer Murders and Holby City in his earlier career. If you watched British telly in the ‘90s and ‘00s, he’s probably had a bit part in something you watched.

A feature length supporting role in Love And Other Disasters followed this, along with a recurring role in Casualty spin off, Casualty 1901. After this came a spot in New Tricks, and following that his career made some links with his His Dark Materials co stars.

Whether it was Sherlock opposite Andrew Scott, Victor Frankenstein opposite James McAvoy or The Refugees with daughter Dafne, he’s shared the screen with several here before.

Those roles were followed by The Man Who Killed Don Quixote and The Crown, and with that we’re all caught up.
