6. Claire Will Either Surpass Frank, Or Break Completely
Comparing House of Cards to Shakespeare's Macbeth isn't new - indeed all the similarities in the way the story has unfolded and the roles the characters take are about as astute as it's possible to be - but as we enter the show's third season we find our female lead at something of a cross roads. In Macbeth, after starting out as an accomplice and co-conspirator to her husband, Lady Macbeth is eventually overwhelmed by the evil of their actions and capitulates to eventually taking her own life. At the end of Season 2, and after being confronted by one of the many people Claire had manipulated to further her own aims, we very briefly see her breaking down in tears. Either a temporary blip as she let of steam, or a worrying sign of things to come. There has been some debate about who the real power in the Underwood household is across the last two seasons and, as the new First Lady, Claire finds herself in a position where she can use her husband to wield her own power, or become overwhelmed in the horror of their actions. Season 3 will either see her complete the Lady Macbeth prophecy, or go down the praying mantis route of simply eating the male and assuming control herself.
