Possibly the strongest King to date, Aenys' last surviving son was just 14 years old when he took the crown, and by the end of his reign was referred to as the Old King. Jaehaerys inherited a broken kingdom from his cruel uncle, and worked to repair the cracks throughout the country.

He succeeded in this enough to earn himself the name of Jaehaerys the Conciliator, renewing the relationship between the Crown and the Faith, and strategically influencing the selection of a new High Septon that would not spurn his marriage to his sister, Alysanne.

Jaehaerys had 13 children, though just four grew to adulthood. His heir Aegon died from an arrow taken to the throat, before the new Prince of Dragonstone and heir to the Iron Throne, Baelon, died of a sickness. As the Old King grew ever older, and with several strong claims to consider, Jaehaerys summoned over 1000 Lords throughout Westeros to decide which grandson would be his successor - Baelon's son, Viserys, or Rhaenys' son, Laenor Velaryon.

Ultimately, the council ruled that although Rhaenys was the oldest, and only living sibling, her gender put her son behind her younger brother's son in line for the throne. When Jaehaerys died of old age, the crown passed to his grandson Viserys as decided by the Great Council of 101 AC.
