How I Met Your Mother: 10 Best Characters Who Appeared After Season One

5. “Artillery” Arthur Hobbs

How I Met Your Mother James Stinson
CBS

Though he was Marshall's worst boss, Arthur Hobbs, nicknamed Artillery Arthur, proved to be one of HIMYM's most hilarious characters. Played by the incomparable Bob Odenkirk, Arthur is infamous in universe for his Jekyll and Hyde-like personality. Arthur is often friendly to his employees when they are doing well, but when anyone makes a mistake, he'll bring out the artillery and scream at them.

Arthur reappears throughout the series as Marshall rises through the ranks of Goliath National Bank, though his leadership never improves. He once fires a man for wearing the same colour tie as him. Despite this evil act, Bob Odenkirk finds a way to make it funny.

Arthur shows his softer side when it comes to his dog Tugboat. Though we never see much of Tugboat until Season 8, Arthur's last appearance, Arthur puts him on a pedestal, and is still heartbroken that his ex-wife won the dog in the divorce. To make matters worse, Arthur ended up with full custody of his horrible, horrible kids!

Whether he's reaming out an employee or gushing over a puppy, Arthur is a man of extremes who always makes for a great guest star.
