How I Met Your Mother: 10 Worst Things Robin Ever Did
2. Ted As A Backup
While a lot of the romance between Ted and Robin in the early days was put to bed, it becomes clear as the show progresses that not only is Robin unkind to Ted's girlfriends, she straight up admits that she likes having him as a plan B.
While viewers can obviously make up their own mind regarding characters, this is the exchange that firmly cemented for most people that Robin seemed to not want Ted herself, but also didn't want anyone else to take him.
She tells him to his face that if she ever wanted to do the whole marriage and kids thing, it was nice to know that "he was there".
While her poor treatment of Ted's partners and moving away to Japan when he was going to get married should have been telling enough, this was the first time that she ever said out loud what most people already knew.
She wanted Ted to be her back-up plan. Not that she liked him enough to be in a relationship now, just that she would like him to stay unattached and wait around as her safety net just in case everything else fell through.
A horrible way to think about another person.
