How I Met Your Mother: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best

3. Season Seven

How I Met Your Mother Tick Tick Tick Barney Robin
CBS

In its later seasons, How I Met Your Mother leaned more and more into its more dramatic themes and storytelling. In season seven, the emotion is at a serious high with the story of Barney and Robin, who, as exes, realise they still have feelings for each other despite being in committed relationships at the time.

The episodes centred around the pair's relationship offers up some of the show's most moving entries, such as the heartbreaking "Tick Tick Tick," where Barney breaks up with Nora to be with Robin, only for Robin to choose Kevin over Barney at the last minute, and "Symphony of Illumination," wherein Robin learns she can't have kids.

Barney also ends up getting together match-made-in-heaven Quinn and decides to settle down for the first time, and allows Ted to get back into the dating pool once more after a series of unfortunate bumps in his quest for true love. Also, season seven introduces audiences the Ducky Tie. Enough said.

It may have one too many filler episodes tossed in-between the big moments, but when they're as fun as "The Burning Beekeeper" and "The Broath," who cares?

Best Episodes: Tick Tick Tick, Symphony of Illumination, Trilogy Time
