Jessica Jones Season 2: 10 Things That Must Happen
1. Don't Forget The Detective Angle
Here's something Season 2 really must utilise, even though it isn't as attention-grabbing as Kilgrave's return or, say, Trish suiting up as Hellcat. One of the most enjoyable elements of Jessica Jones' debut run was its neo-noir feel. It's a shame, then, that it kind of left this by the wayside in its later episodes. There was a bit of detective work in The Defenders, but that was also quickly dispensed with again.
Hopefully Season 2 will reinstate the hardboiled private eye angle as a core part of the show. Sure, that can mean more emphasis on atmosphere over fast plot progression, but that's kind of what the Defendersverse series are good at anyway.
Plus, as well as giving the show a moody air, Jessica's detective work also provides a lot of humour as it's great fun to see Krysten Ritter getting to play Jessica trying on other personas in order to trick information out of people.
In short, the Marvel-Netflix series are at their best when they double down on what makes them individualistic and that's a noirish detective vibe for Jessica Jones.
