Joss Whedon still has Faith and a new T.V. show!

The show is Dollhouse, and it will see Eliza Dushku lead as Echo... a character whose memory is wiped after each top-secret assignment.

I love Joss Whedon's stuff. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of my favourite T.V. shows of all time. I love his run on Astonishing X-Men and the scripts he has contributed to down the years for things like Toy Story and Speed. The only thing that has never quite clicked with me was Serenity/Firefly but ya know a lot of people dug those shows, so I'm just thinking maybe it wasn't made for me. Variety had some really cool news yesterday that I didn't get chance to talk about. They say that Whedon is returning to write, direct and executive produce a new t.v. show after a couple of years absence after ditching the medium for television. The show will be Dollhouse, with seven episodes commissioned initially commissioned by Fox. The best bit of all is that his Faith from Buffy, the lovely Eliza Dushku will star...

Dollhouse follows a top-secret world of people programmed with different personalities, abilities and memories depending on their mission. After each assignment -- which can be physical, romantic or even illegal -- the characters have their memories wiped clean, and are sent back to a lab (dubbed the "Dollhouse"). Show centers on Dushku's character, Echo, as she slowly begins to develop some self-awareness, which impacts her missions. Beyond Dushku's character, the show will also revolve around the people who run the mysterious "dollhouse" and two other "dolls," a man and woman who are friendly with Echo. Then there's the federal agent who has heard an urban myth about the dolls, and is trying to investigate their existence.
Cool. It is of course the last line that gives the series longevity some hope as without any character progression this might just have turned into a slow show with little direction long term. The idea for the show apparently came around when Dushku called Whedon to give her some career advice on her next move after a string of mis-fires (her show Tru Calling was prematurely canned and she hasn't been in a big movie in years) and the former Buffy creator began discussing potential ideas for her... and that's when they came up with Dollhouse. You gotta believe they talked about bringing a Faith spin-off back to our screens but I think they have gone in the right direction here. Something new and fresh is always very welcomed by me. It must be nice to have Joss Whedon as a friend to save your career. I think Sarah Michelle Gellar should probably give him a call too.
