6. Oliver Bird
Jemaine Clement only appeared in a handful of episodes of season 1 but he proved to be one of the year's highlights as Oliver, he of the deep-sea diver suit and the love of 60s beat poetry. The season 1 finale saw him possessed by Farouk and fleeing Summerland, which promised a bigger role for him next time.
That didn't actually turn out to be the case, though, as Farouk stretched himself across four faces this season. That said, when he did materialise as Oliver, Clement got to prove that he can be one chilling performer. Who would have thought we could be scared by the guy from Flight of the Conchords?
Still, Clement is at his best when he's allowed to be funny and he had great chemistry with several of his co-stars this year - there wasn't enough of Oliver and Lenny being evil together, for one. Their duet of "Would You Like To Swing On A Star?" in Chapter 10 was a particular highlight. All in all, it was another strong performance from an actor who make the most of limited screentime.
