Legion Season 2: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best
7. Melanie Bird
In contrast to the sophisticated Summerland leader we met last season, season 2 sees Melanie in a very different place. With Oliver having left her again, she has gone off the deep end, spending her days in a drug-addled haze (nice elephant hookah, by the way, Mel).
This gives Jean Smart some interesting new elements to explore in her character. The downside is that she doesn't really get the chance to until the final few episodes of the season, as Melanie goes missing for a huge stretch. Once she does come to the fore, though, Smart is terrific as someone whose sense of reality is completely shot.
What's more, Chapter 18 then gives her the chance to offer her own take on the Shadow King when Farouk possesses her - Melanie/Farouk is all icy evil and casually man-hating. As the season ends, Melanie is back with Oliver... but they've gone a little crazy while trapped in their astral ice cube. That's another character dynamic it'll be interesting to see more of in season 3.
