20. Dominic Monaghan References His Own Role In The Lord Of The Rings Movies

Episode: Further Instructions When Dominic Monaghan turned up in Lost playing drug-addicted rock star Charlie Pace, he was fresh off of the back of the last The Lord Of The Rings movie. And so, of course, everyone who saw him suddenly in Lost felt obliged to shout: "Oh, it's him... from The Lord Of The Rings!" Because that's how people behave these days. Even the Lost writers couldn't help making a neat little reference to Monaghan's role as Merry in Peter Jackson's iconic movies. During one scene in the season three episode Further Instructions, Charlie tells Locke he has heard that trees are great conversationalists, a clear nod to The Two Towers, in which Merry and Pippin encounter the ancient tree race known as Ents, who can talk. The only person Charlie could have "heard" this from was clearly Peter Jackson.
