In the season four episode "Super Bad Boyfriend", everyone's favorite former angel Amenadiel comes dangerously close to going full-fledged demon after a young man who he had bonded with is murdered. Without hesitation, him and Lucifer track down and punish the man responsible with enough rage to shake Heaven and Earth.

There are few things more painful to watch than a good person go bad, even if they are completely justified in doing so. That guy deserved what he got, but, at the same time, seeing Amenadiel almost kill the guy was like watching Superman almost kill someone, it just didn't feel right.

It was completely out of character for him, which is exactly what makes it so tragic. Amenadiel wanted to kill the guy, and in his rage was about to end his life. He doesn't though, and instead pulls back, choosing mercy over vengeance.

Amenadiel knows the kind of man he wants to be, but in a moment of weakness he came so very close to compromising that. We want the best for the characters we love, and so watching them go down a path of self-destruction never fails to hurt us.
