Marvel's Luke Cage: 10 Ups And 2 Downs From Season 1
Sweet Christmas! With Luke Cage, Marvel and Netflix have gone and done it again.
Marvel and Netflix have done it again.
That pretty much goes without saying at this stage. Across three shows and four seasons of television, the Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has consistently delivered the goods; superhero TV series that are true to their comic book roots, while also being so much more, bringing a depth of character and a deft handling of challenging subjects that you just don't (or can't) get on the big-screen.
Luke Cage brings the guy who was a supporting character in Jessica Jones into the spotlight, shifting focus from Hell's Kitchen to Harlem and bringing us a superhero series that pays homage to blaxpoitation films of the 70s, while being the closest we'll ever get to Marvel's take on The Wire.
Over the course of 13 densely-packed, action-filled, thrillingly-exciting episodes, Luke Cage delivers another great instalment into the Netflix Marvel Universe, showing there's no sign of them dropping the ball anytime soon. It gets a hell of a lot right, and while it isn't without issues, it dropping into Netflix is like an incredibly sweet Christmas present.
