Marvel's Luke Cage: 10 Ups And 2 Downs From Season 1
5. It Fits Right Into The Netflix Marvel Universe
There's no cameo from any of the other Defenders here, but they are referenced a number of times. Claire Temple, once again serving as the main connective tissue between the various shows, mentions a really good lawyer friend of hers a number of times, while there are a few references to Jessica Jones. Blake Tower and Turk Barrett make brief appearances too, lest you forget this is the same New York as that of Daredevil and Jones.
While there are differences in action and character (and that music) to help the series stand apart from its counterpart, it does fit nicely into this universe as well. There's nothing tonally jarring or radically out-there, while it runs at a similar time to Daredevil's second season, meaning there are no big time-jumps to navigate.
There's no dip in quality here either (whether it's better than Daredevil and/or Jessica Jones is more a matter of personal preference - personally, I don't think it is, but it's close), so it stands shoulder-to-shoulder with them. It's well-established in that same world, and is another story that fleshes out this universe and gives some scope for it to continue expanding (such as a little Iron Fist reference).
