At some point during the roundtables for Iron Fist, the writers must have realised that they really weren't taking advantage of the more lax censorship control afforded by streaming on Netflix rather than on TV. There were a few swears here and there, but Danny was way too much of a goody-goody to get into any Punisher style sadism, and his fight style simply isn't as brutal as Matt Murdock's as Daredevil.
At this point, the writers must have looked at each other and decided the best thing to do is shoe-horn in a scene in which Harold Meacham hints at his inner monstrosity by smashing the teeth out of two dead Hand guys in quite horrific detail. Seriously, look...
It comes completely out of the blue, which is possibly sort of the point, and then the show merrily goes back to being mostly PG-13 and you wonder whether you just dreamt that super-gory, J-Horror homage. This is a show, after all, that is so scared of real violence that BOTH Colleen and Danny end up with the same Hollywood swordfight injuries to their arms.
