MCU What If...? - Every Episode Ranked From Worst To Best

The majority of the first season of What If…? on Disney+ looked at past MCU events, and tweaked them ever so slightly, showing the colossal ripple effect they could have throughout the multiverse. Though this episode did the same, as Hank Pym brought back a zombie virus from the Quantum Realm, this was very much inspired by a fan favourite story from the comics.

Like some of the best episodes of this series, this was an incredibly dark story. Almost every Avenger was turned into a zombie, with the exception of Vision, who Marvel still managed to kill in a different way, Scott, who was just a head in a jar, T’Challa, who had part of himself fed to zombie Wanda, and Peter Parker.

Against that however, it could be argued that there was a touch too much comedy, mainly coming from the likes of Scott Lang and Happy Hogan, and that less would have been more in this particular department. Despite this being the overwhelming criticism to come from the episode, it delivered everything that was promised, with an interesting story, genuine horror moments, and some stunning visuals.

Once again, though he was only in it for a relatively short time, the standout of the episode was Chadwick Boseman. His words about death not being the end were not only a comfort to Peter and Scott on board the Quadjet, but were poignant for the entire world watching and missing the actor himself.
