How I Met Your Mother Ending: 10 Past Faults It Must Avoid

1. Take Notes From Other Finales

Here's the thing in TV if it sounds like a bad idea, it probably is. If you think Dexter Morgan becoming a lumberjack is questionable at best, then just don't do it. If you're unsure of anything at all, just don't. Bad series finales are just as important to watch when plotting a good finale as anything else. Perhaps more important. The Seinfeld finale was a polarizing example, with some fans loving the gang being thrown in jail, and others crucifiing it for it's somewhat lazy plot devices. It's important to remain on the side of caution. If Breaking Bad can produce a seemingly universally loved series finale, then you guys can, too. Remember that you were the ones that wrote episodes such as "Game Night", "Monday Night Football", "How I Met Everyone Else" and "Murtaugh", among others. Whatever decisions made about the finale of the series were determined well in advance, including a mystery scene teased by Bays and Thomas that was filmed nearly six years ago. Whatever it was that was filmed, whatever you decided that will set the stage for March 31st, please do not let yourself fall into the pit that so many other tv finales go. The last thing we want to do is dump HIMYM into the terrible tv finale pile along with Dexter and Lost. We've remembered the show fondly for many years, some more than others, and we want to know that we'll be given the ending we all deserve. Remember what has come before you, and do your best to match up, perhaps be better, than the great finales that have come in the past. Have I missed something that HIMYM should avoid? How excited for "Last Forever" are you? Sound off in the comments!
