Mystery Science Theater 3000: 5 Overrated Episodes & 5 That Don't Get The Love They Deserve

3. Invasion Of The Neptune Men (Episode 819)

Mystery Sceince Theater Mystery Of The Neptune Men The nation of Japan was very, very good to Best Brains. Many of their "Greatest Hits" episodes were badly-dubbed movies (or, more often than not, badly-dubbed television shows edited down to feature film length). Most beloved of these episodes are the Gamera ("Friend to Children" "Made of Turtle Meat" "Really Neat") movies and Prince of Space, while the rest seem to more or less languish in obscurity. Invasion of the Neptune Men is one such episode, and for the life of me I can't figure out why. It's more or less identical to Prince of Space, only with more incidental Hitler imagery. Oh, hm, maybe that was it. I don't begrudge Prince of Space its hallowed spot in the annals of MST3K history. Not only is it a superlatively funny one, but it was the first one I ever saw. It will forever occupy a special place in my heart. Yet the incredibly similar Neptune Men--which stars no less a figure than Sonny Chiba--seems to be met with disdain, or at least indifference. Where is the justice?
