Coming from Marta Kauffman, co-creator of Friends, and with a cast rivalling that of any sitcom, hopes were understandably high when Grace and Frankie debuted back in 2015.

Centring on two women whose husbands leave them for each other, the first season struggled to find any sort of unique voice amidst its worn out sitcom tropes.

In Seasons 2 and especially 3, however, the show has improved into something different. It's added more dramatic layers, and got more out of that talented cast, finding genuine laughs and emotion alike. The four of them carry the show, but are increasingly up to the task.
