Aswang are the most famous monsters in Philippine mythology, the word Aswang sometimes used as an umbrella term for monstrous, fetus-eating, vampiric creatures.

Aswang have a plethora of descriptions and appearances. The most famous of these include the shapeshifters, the viscera-suckers, the bloodsuckers and man-eaters.

Common Aswang stories have them transforming into dogs during daytime, causing real dogs to bark at sunset. Others have them looking like normal humans, though the lack of a philtrum above the lip and an upside-down reflection of yourself in their eyes are clear signs of their nonhuman nature.

Some creatures often associated with Aswang are the Manananggal, Tiktik, and Wakwak. The manananggal is best known as a woman who separates herself from the lower half of her body and flies around with batlike wings, looking for fetuses to suck out of pregnant women with her proboscis-like tongue.

Tiktik are similar, but without the splitting of the body, who are supposedly louder when farther away but quieter when closer. The wakwak is similar to the tiktik, but more bird-like.

Most of these creatures are seen in the Aswang clans of the Trese series, led by the human-looking Dominic, Prince of the Aswang.
