Only Fools And Horses: Ranking All The Main Characters From Worst To Best

10. Marlene Boyce

Only Fools Marlene
BBC

High-pitched diva Marlene is the show’s first prominent female character. Being mentioned in previous episodes, she debuted onscreen in ‘Sleeping Dogs Lie,’ the fifth episode of Series 4.

Marlene serves as a foil to Boycie’s boastful attitude and usually gets laughs at the expense of her husband. Later in the series, Marlene featured in the show's first attempts at a soap opera style storyline, as she was unable to conceive a child. This storyline ran over several years until Marlene and her husband welcomed their son, Tyler, to the family.

Her funniest moment came at the behest of her husband in the episode ‘Heroes and Villains.’ Rodney talks about having to keep his wife’s urine specimen somewhere cold and dark, to which Marlene responds, ‘how about Boycie’s pants?’ Boycie begins to laugh at a high pitch, to then realise the joke was on him.

Marlene was a great additional character but was always kept away from the A storylines. Susan Joan Pringle Holderness did a fantastic job with the character, but she was unable to overshadow the character’s husband in terms of memorability.
