Preacher Season 3: 3 Ups & 1 Down From 'Hilter'
Downs...
1. Plot Conveniences In The Angelville Storyline
Marie L'Angelle is terrifying and all, but the fact of the matter is that she should've been dealt with ages ago. The antagonist might have supernatural abilities, but she's a frail old lady and there's no doubt that Herr Starr would easily be able to put her out of her misery. And yet, the writers have deliberately avoided putting the two characters in the same room, because it would resolve the storyline too quickly. However, that being said, Starr and L'Angelle finally come face-to-face in this episode. But things once again prove problematic when Starr appears intimidated by the old lady. In fact, he appeases her by agreeing to get her some souls. Yawn.
The whole thing is unconvincing. There's little doubt that Starr has dealt with far worse than L'Angelle, who - as great as she is - is only human. Once again, the showrunners are deliberately avoiding the obvious solution to the problem so that they can drag this L'Angelle stuff out to the finale when, instead, we'd prefer more focus on Cassidy and Les Entrants du Sang. Can they give Cassidy a spin-off please, so that he doesn't have to play second fiddle to this repetitive, contrived plotline?
