Ranking Every Major Performance In Carnival Row

7. David Gyasi (Agreus Astrayon)

Carnival Row
Amazon Prime Video

David Gyasi’s Agreus Astrayon is probably the most outwardly compelling character in all of Carnival Row. As a Puck who’s bought his way into high society, he makes a mockery of the established hierarchy. Considering he made his fortune hunting down his own kind, there’s an extra level to Agreus as well.

However, he starts out the show as a charming, affable figure and so he remains all the way through. It’s great to see him showing up the established upper class, and he and Imogen eventually make a sweet couple, but there’s not a great deal of range.

The lightbulb scene especially shows that Gyasi is able to carry Agreus’ charm convincingly, but it does feel like he doesn’t quite live up to his character’s potential fully.

The only time he displays anything other than charm is the false anger and nastiness he shows Imogen when he’s trying to get her to leave him, for her own protection. She sees through the ruse straight away, of course, and the charm is switched back on.

He remains an intriguing force going into season two, where he’ll hopefully get some more development.
