6. Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo

Long before "The Simpsons Go To" (insert famous place here) episodes were a tired cliche, Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo knocked it out of the park by taking the Simpson family to the Land of the Rising Sun. Highlighting cultural differences by having Homer walk clean through rice paper walls and Bart "tag in" to a Sumo wrestling bout and hit an opponent with a steel chair, Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo is perhaps the high point of the "Simpsons in a strange place" gimmick, and a great season finale to boot.
It all starts out by the family discovering that they can get cheap airfare if they don't really care where they're going. Beating the Flanders family for tickets, they soon find out they'll be vacationing in Japan - where they can visit the likes of America town, a western-themed restaurant.
With the mandatory Godzilla cameo and plenty of fish out of water humour, and the family eventually finding themselves on a sadistic Japanese game show, Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo might be one of the last of the truly great Simpsons season finales.
