Ranking The Big Bads From Buffy The Vampire Slayer
8. The First Evil
On paper, the embodiment of evil itself is a good final Big Bad for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. An ancient entity older than humans and demons alike and completely un-killable, The First Evil wanted to end the line of slayers so it could take on a corporeal form and rule the world.
It was a brave choice to give The First Evil no unique form (or actor) for the other characters to bounce off. Instead, it would take the appearance of characters that had died in the past, and it would only show its true self in the briefest of budget CGI moments that were few and far between.
This proved to be a double-edged sword, because although it was great seeing cameos from characters such as Mayor Wilkins or Glory, it only drew attention to the better villains that had come before. Having a 'character' that is just purely evil doesn't leave a lot of room for dimension as it is, but also robbing that character of a unique voice and look resulted in The First Evil feeling hollow.
This left the audience without any sort of emotional connection to the final antagonist, which is a shame.
