Ranking The Doctor Who Series Finales From Worst To Best

2. The Pandorica Opens & The Big Bang (Series 5)

First broadcast: Saturday 19th June 2010 & Saturday 26th June 2010 Because Doctor Who cliffhangers don't get much bigger than this! Although it can (and probably will) be argued that The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang as a whole isn't one of the best finales to date, it deserves second place purely for the final moments of part one alone. Suffice to say, they managed to tear the stratosphere of the show's fevered fandom in half... and then some! As Matt Smith's first finale in role as the Eleventh Doctor, and Steven Moffat's as showrunner, Series 5 was always going to go out with a timey-wimey bang. A big bang, you might say. Nobody could've quite predicted just what the Grand Moff had up his scheming sleeve but things went from bad to worse for our honourable heroes when the Doctor found himself locked in an eternal prison by a plethora of his formidable foes, Rory Williams - who had died earlier in the series - returned as a Roman Auton who proceeded to shoot his fiancée, Amy Pond, in the stomach, River Song was trapped inside an exploding TARDIS and reality itself was collapsing all around them. Blimey. It was going to be a long week...
