Red Dwarf: Every Series Ranked From Worst To Best

8. Series 10

Red Dwarf VIII
Dave

After the travesty that was Back To Earth, fans didn't know what to expect when Dave announced series 10, but we needn't have worried. What we got were effects that could finally realize the vision of the show, alongside a mish-mash of episodes that, while not quite a return to form, were still better than anyone expected.

So many of the jokes, and even episode concepts, seemed to be rehashed from earlier seasons but with a more modern spin on them. It almost seemed like the original plan was for a movie that recreates some of the classic Red Dwarf stories and jokes, and that was changed to a new season at the last moment.

This is especially true of the last episode that seems almost like a movie finale. Here we see Rimmer finding out more about his past, and finally coming to terms with himself as a person. The episode showcases not just how far the characters have come on their journey, but how much the show itself has evolved from its original concept. It's no surprise that many fans consider The Beginning as the perfect send-off for the boys.

"The slime's coming home."

After hearing that you are what you eat, Mik took a good hard look at his diet and realised he might just be a szechuan spare rib alongside prawn fried rice.
