Rick And Morty: 10 Worst Things Rick Has Done
1. Slavery With Extra Steps
It’s commonly agreed that slavery is one of the worse atrocities the human race has ever inflicted upon itself. And while Rick selling arms that perpetrated slavery is bad, what Rick did in The Ricks Must Be Crazy is much more involved.
Rick creates an entire universe of living, functioning people, all so he can harvest their energy to power a car battery. Some have compared this situation to taxes rather than slavery; they go about their daily lives and Rick skims some of the electricity off the top. They aren’t aware of their purpose, and aren’t particularly oppressed.
However, when Morty calls it slavery with extra steps, he’s definitely on to something. These people have only one reason to exist: work. If they stop producing energy for Rick to use, he’ll kill them. The fact that they don’t know of this cosmic ultimatum doesn’t make it any more redeemable for Rick.
No one is hurt by this creation; in fact generations of beings are brought into a largely peaceful existence by it. But the threat looms above them. Make electricity or die. That makes it slavery with extra steps, and that makes it wither worst thing Rick has ever done.
