Ricky Gervais' 9 Best Roasts At Golden Globes 2020

Celebrities often use the Golden Globes and other major award ceremonies to make political speeches and advocate for change. We have all seen them, whether its climate change, political circumstances or lack of diversity, they all see it as a chance to promote their own moral sensibilities and ask for change.

Gervais, however, sees the hypocrisy rampant in Hollywood and decided to call them out on their own turf. It was a brave but honorable moment in his monologue, and many people have called it his finest moment from all his appearances as host. One user remarks "This was long overdue", as others rush to the internet to praise the comedian.

In this particular instance he singled out Apple, who have recently launched their own streaming service (I know. How predictable.). "You say you're woke, but the companies you work for - Apple, Amazon, Disney - if ISIS started a streaming service, you would call your agent, wouldn't you?" Gervais accuses, to a response of muffled laughs and audible introspection. He lambasted Apple, commenting on their show "a drama about dignity... and doing the right thing... made from a company that runs sweatshops in China. So if you do win an award tonight, don't use it as a platform to make a political speech. You are in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world." He continues "Come up. Accept your little award. Thank your agent and your god and f**k off."

It seems obvious that he saved the best till last with this one, plunging a dagger straight into the heart of Hollywood right in their own home!
