1. Kevin Hart, The Hollywood Foreign Press, And Gervais Himself
Gervais, hosting the Golden Globes for a record 5th time, couldn't help but see the funny side of the situation. It only took him 30 seconds to start roasting the same people who asked him to host, and you can't help but think... he's got a point.
"NBC clearly doesn't care either" Gervais began. "5th time" Referring to how many times he has hosted. "Kevin Hart was fired from hosting the Oscars for posting some offensive tweets". Pointing to himself Gervais exclaimed "Hello?". Notorious for his controversial tweets, he couldn't help but see the irony. "Lucky for me" he continues "The Hollywood Foreign Press can barely speak English... and they've no idea what Twitter is so..."
What's interesting about his observations are the questions it asks. Do NBC and the Hollywood Foreign Press value the profit and ratings of their show more so than their own reputation? Evidence suggests so, and as Gervais continues throughout the show to mock their institution and the show it hosts, we can't help but agree that it makes for great entertainment.
