Schitt's Creek: 10 Funniest Episodes

4. Season 5 Episode 9 - The M.V.P.

Moira Rose
CBC

In this episode, the employees of Cafe Tropical and Bob's Garage take part in an annual baseball championship. Even though it's supposed to be a friendly game, bad blood between the players compels them to do all they can to humiliate the opposing team. The situation is made more tense since Johnny and David are playing against each other. Because both teams are down one player, they are forced to recruit a replacement at the last second to avoid a forfeit, causing further complications.

Even though Schitt's Creek is known for its air-tight script and hilarious line-delivery, The M.V.P. leans more into physical comedy. Every throw, jump, and catch was filmed from every conceivable angle to capture the funniest shots possible. (Dan Levy spent six hours to film the last jump of the game to ensure it looked perfect.)

Although performers like Chris Elliott and Eugene Levy are renowned for their comedy talents, their skills at physical comedy are demonstrated best in The M.V.P. It's just a shame we didn't get to see this side of the actors more in other episodes.
