Sex Education: Every Main Character Ranked Worst To Best

3. Maeve Wiley

Maeve consistently delivers as one of the best avenues for narrative, as she acts as a perfect bridge for the societal pressures placed on women - especially younger women.

However, the reason this works so well is because of the complex and deep character development that she is given. Wiley doesn't feel like a hollow shell to discuss political and social issues, instead she is a living breathing person who gives the writers a chance to address multiple problems compellingly.

Emma Mackey does a beautiful job with this part and delivers on this utterly juxtaposing figure who - in a similar vein to Eric - lives an almost double life. There is the Maeve Wiley who is thoughtful, kind and insecure, and then there is "!*$%-biter" the role that the rest of the students peg her as. It's understandable as to why she sometimes plays into this as it's a defence mechanism for her.

The relationships that she has with the other characters always come across well, as her boundaries are so high that allowing people to cross them feels essential and emotional.

She is relatable, empathetic and utterly believable as a person, and that is why she ranks so high.
