The character of Otis is written to play into multiple archetypes, but still presents something utterly unique to keep him interesting. We have seen the awkward virgin loser character many times, but Otis brings with it a different vibe as he is confident and knowledgeable in sex thanks to his mother's job. This is such a compelling motive for storytelling as it takes the awkward nerd role and forces it into conflict.
Also, Otis is incredibly fun to watch as he frequently gets himself into awkward situations thanks to his sometimes overcompensated confidence. This delivers on being a driving force for the show's narrative and makes for some incredibly humorous sequences.
