Radioactive Man, as a character, serves as the main comic book character in the world of The Simpsons. He has popped up in many episodes for a variety of reasons, but the specific episode Radioactive Man happens to be about the creation of a Radioactive Man film, which lends itself to a lot of jokes about filmmaking, and also allows a couple of old school references as well. Both Little Rascals and Mickey Rooney get name checked, with the latter being brought in to try and convince Milhouse to continue on his movie career. There are homages to the old Batman of the Adam West era and plenty of jokes poking fun at spurious Hollywood spending. The episode is full of funny jokes about showbiz, dripping with irony that even outsiders can understand.
