10. Eleanor Abernathy
Otherwise known as the Crazy Cat Last, Eleanor is another caricature based on a perhaps disparaging stereotype of the typical cat lady, though clearly her execution is vastly more grotesque than that of Professor Frink. The performance behind the character - by Tress MacNeille - is ludicrous and brilliant, mostly reducing her dialogue to manic shrieks and shouts, with her own garbled language that generally comes alongside her penchant for throwing her cats at people for no reason. That alone makes her a diverting character, but it is when the show delves a little into her background that the farcical impact really makes the character more entertaining. Abernathy wasn't always a crazy cat lady, she had high hopes of being a lawyer from a young age, propelled by progressive ideas about female emancipation, which lead her to gaining a twin degree in law and medicine. Sadly, she was left mentally exhausted, became a drunk, and sought solace in her cat, which quickly spiralled and lead to her raving lunatic state. She is a wonderfully appropriate, grotesque morality lesson against the type of people who hoard cats and have problems distinguishing correct emotional boundaries with their pets.
