The Simpsons: 12 Things You Missed If You Stopped Watching in 2000

2. Ned Marrying Edna Krabappel

This one surprised us all: Ned Flanders and Edna Krabappel, Bart's elementary school teacher, and often times the bane of his existence, get married. Poor, poor Seymour Skinner. The marriage, which took place in secret, was revealed in "Ned N' Edna's Blend" in season 23. They had begun dating in "The Ned-Liest Catch" - the season finale of season 22. Something of an odd couple, they actually worked, mainly because they clashed in all the right (comic) ways. Seeing Ned with another Maude would have been pointless, and Edna's crass nature worked in the context of being a strong step-mother: for example, she becomes disgusted with the level of education in Rod and Todd's school, and transfers them to Springfield Elementary. Would the couple have lasted? Sadly, we'll never know.
