The Simpsons: 12 Things You Missed If You Stopped Watching in 2000

8. Some Fantastic, Expanded Couch Gags

Couch gags have become a big deal for fans over the years. In the early days of the show, they were pretty standard - the family landed on the couch, and something unexpected but formulaic was usually the result. Not so in modern times - there have been some fantastic couch gags that really push the envelope. From Lance Murdoch jumping the couch (a throwback character really) to a Game of Thrones spoof that was surprisingly well done, to the family chasing the couch Catch Me If You Can style, there have been some excellent spots. The 500th episode couch gag, however, may be the best of the bunch, as the different couch gags over the years are run through in quick succession, reminding us just how much ground the show has covered.
