There was a time when Piney Winston and Clay Morrow didn't hate each other, but after everything that happened between them since, it's difficult to imagine. Both were founding members of the Sons of Anarchy, and Piney even helped patch Clay in.

However, things went sour when Clay ordered Opie's death, which ultimately resulted in Donna being killed instead. Piney agreed to put this to bed and let Jax handle it, but then Clay got the club involved with the Galindo Cartel and their cocaine.

It didn't take a genius to realise that this wasn't going to end well for the Sons, so Piney decided to blackmail Clay with 'proof' that he killed John Teller. If the Sons weren't out of the drug business soon, Piney was going to tell the entire club the contents of the letters wrote by JT, detailing the suspicions he had that his best friend was plotting to kill him.

Of course, Clay Morrow was never the kind of person to take being threatened lightly, and Piney paid the price for his mistake with his life. He was ambushed in the cabin, with Clay searching for the letters he didn't even have. It was all based on what Tara had told him, but regardless, he was a threat and needed to be taken care of. The President of SAMCRO killed another member yet again when he shot Piney in the chest with a shotgun.
