South Park: 10 Most Controversial Moments

2. Family Guy And Muhammad

As these last two entries will show you, South Park and its attempts at showing the prophet Muhammad became a messy, stressful series of (mostly unsuccessful) negotiations. Stone and Parker were direct competitors with the show Family Guy and its showrunner Seth MacFarlane back in 2006. Attempting to gain an edge over the other, SP dedicated a two-part storyline that mocked FG while simultaneously stirring the pot with its mentioning of the prophet Muhammad.

While there was no backlash from Seth MacFarlane (who took the show's criticism in-stride), the plot points involving the showing of Muhammad did lead to problems. Originally slated to be Season 10's premiere episode, it was forcibly delayed due to ongoing negotiations with Comedy Central and the whole Muhammad situation. In addition, the two-part nature of the storyline was only made so that Stone and Parker had more time to discuss things with the network.

In the end, 'Cartoon Wars' became more known for its criticism of Family Guy, but the bits of controversy involving the Muslim prophet foreshadowed an eventual problem that would eventually come out in the future.
